The words to describe 2020 -
Location: From our home in Skálafirði, Faroe Islands.
2020 has been quite a year and I have some choice thoughts on this year that we all want to forget but are never likely to.
It goes without saying that 2020 presented us all with quite a few challenges we were hardly prepared for. One thing it certainly did was teach us a valuable life lesson. Our country has been a virtual paradise for many, many years, but as the old saying goes: you don’t know what you’ve got, till it's gone.
Our beautiful, safe way of life turned out to be a lightning rod that finally caught the lightning it was bound to draw. The unsafe feeling took a grip of the entire world. We could barely retreat to the safety of our own homes, as even those held no surefire safety, and that was perhaps that worst feeling of all.
The invisible enemy was out there, and no matter how cautious you were in avoiding it, it didn’t much matter unless your entire household was abiding by all of the same safety precautions. This put everyone in a guarded position of having to look out for their loved ones by staying close to them. That mutual shielding of those in our homes, I believe drew us closer together, and made us stronger.
2020 was a very bad year for businesses, especially those who employed people with jobs of artistic nature like musicians and photographers. The pandemic caused the indefinite suspension of most traditional events and the postponement or cancelation of many services that we make a living providing.
In the poignant words of Bring Me The Horizon: “When we forget the infection, will we remember the lessons?” 2020 unleashed many hardships on society, but we have been blessed in the hope that it has given us a brighter future. A future in which we truly remember to appreciate how dear our loved ones are to us and how much we have truly taken for granted.
I truly believe that everything that happens, does so for a reason, and we should take away the life lessons from this tragic year with us into the years to come.
We sincerely wish everyone a happy and healthy 2021!
